at the Gold Coast 30 September - 4 October 2009 Queensland, Australia

| | Introdution
The inaugural Family Medicine Conference was held at the Sea World Resort, which is Australia’s only theme park resort and conference facility. Family Medicine at the Gold Coast was aimed at General Practitioners. It provided an update on cutting edge principles of assessment and management of family medicine. Plenary sessions were coupled to discussion groups. Practical workshops extended participants’ knowledge and practice in Family Medicine. The lectures and workshops were in the morning and interactive workshops in the afternoon. Time was allowed to visit the incredible theme parks with family members.
ConvenorBernard Pearn-Rowe is Foundation Professor of Clinical Studies at the School of Medicine, The University of Notre Dame, Fremantle and Head of the Discipline of General Practice. Still very much a ‘real’ GP who practices for at least 5 sessions each week, he is Convenor of the Federal AMA Council of General Practice. Formerly Chair of the RACGP in WA, President of the AMA in WA and inaugural Chair of WA GP Education and Training, he holds a Ministerial appointment to the Professional Services Review and is a Clinical Advisor to the National e-Health Transition Authority. His ambition is to help define the evolving role of General Practice in Australia and to enthuse students and young doctors about the professional rewards and variety in his Discipline. In the past he has competed in many cycle races but these days his attempts to maintain his cycling fitness have been only partly successful! back to top |
